Interlibrary
Loan
Request
Form
If the Pearl River County Library System does not have a title you
want, we can try to get it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL is a
resource sharing service between libraries. Simply, one library loans a
title to another library, which then loans it to a patron.
Pearl
River County Library System participates in two interlibrary loan
programs, one exclusive to Mississippi libraries (AGent) and the other
(WorldCat) regional/national.
(Details Below)
Cost
There
is no cost for books, videos/dvds, or multimedia. However, requested
articles or book chapters may cost 10 per page.
Time
Time
is a chief consideration when placing an ILL.
The
processing and shipping of ILLs is unpredictable. Once an ILL request
is placed in AGent or WorldCat, the request is dependent on
participating lending libraries. PRCLS, like the patron, is then
awaiting action from another library.
An
ILL title can arrive in as few as 3-4 days or over a month. Both
occurrences are uncommon. Usually, an ILL arrives in 1-2 weeks.
Availability
Titles
that are very old or very new are difficult to obtain quickly. Books
published in the early 20th
Century or earlier may be non-circulating. New books circulate with a
library’s patrons and are unavailable for ILLs.
Fortunately,
some old titles can be found in their entirety on Google Books: http://books.google.com/.
Checkout
Period, Renewals, and Overdues
The
checkout period for Interlibrary Loans (ILL) is two weeks; renewals are
at the discretion of the lending library and are
uncommon.
An ILL request cannot be cancelled after the lending library has
shipped the title and is, therefore, subject to the above charge for
articles or chapters.
An
ILL is subject to overdue fines of .25 per day.
